It’s that time of the year again with some major changes revealed for the BBC Radio 1 line-up.
After 8 years presenting the drivetime show, Scott Mills will be replaced by Greg James with Mills taking up his old show between 1-4pm.
There are several new additions to the line-up with BBC 1xtra’s Gemma Cairney moving to Radio 1 to replace Edith Bowman on the weekend breakfast show between 7-10am. Edith will now take over Radio 1’s Review Show on Tuesdays from 9pm to 10pm.
T4 presenter Jameela Jamil also joins the station to host the new Radio 1 Request Show.
In New DJ’s We Trust receives a fresh lineup including B-Traits, Mosca, Jordan and Julio Bashmore, all hosting shows on a four weekly rotation.
With the gap left on 1xtra during weekdays from 1-4pm, Sarah Jane Crawford will step up leaving her weekend show (1-4pm) with Adele Roberts filling the spot as 1xtra’s newcomer.
Radio 1 and 1xtra controller, Ben Cooper said, “These are exciting times at Radio 1 & 1Xtra. The latest changes are about attracting even more young listeners by bringing in new and fresh talent to the stations”.

Some of the changes for me were expected especially Gemma Cairney joining the station. She’s more suited to Radio 1’s music and presentation style.
I wasn’t expecting Mills to lose his spot but as Radio 1 have been struggling to hold down a younger audience this move makes sense in terms of a long term choice. I do find Scott and his team very entertaining and extremely funny so I imagine it’ll be hard boots to fill.
