I know various other publications/organisations and sites have already compiled their acts to watch out for next year however I wanted to install my own take on performers I think will flourish in 2012.
The Canadian has already released 3 free mixtapes this year and MTV voted his House Of Balloons package as album of the year. His voice is so distinctive. Many question whether he can deliver an actual album which will cut through but I’ve got faith considering the quality of music he’s already produced.
The London MC has already made waves this year and he’s capped off 2011 featuring alongside Dizzee Rascal on Guts N’ Glory. I wouldn’t even just label him as a Grime MC. When you hear him spit he’d give most people in Hip Hop a run for their money.
The trio of Alex, Courtney and Karis aka Stooshe are a breath of fresh air in music at present. Visually, the girls look exciting with their high colour 80s get-up. Their music is catchy and fully of personality and wit.
Clement Marfo & The Frontline
I interviewed a section of the group a few months back and they already revealed big plans for 2012. With a total of 7 members making up the collective including a full band setup it’s easy to see how they fill a big gap in UK music just now.
The girl from Scotland has been around longer than people may know. Having provided hooks for the likes of Pro Green, Wiley and Tinie Tempah, she then went on to release her own solo material. Heaven firmly stamped her arrival as a solo artist. Her forthcoming debut album, Our Vision Of Events is one of the most anticipated albums in 2012.
The Nostalgia Ultra mixtape set off the Frank Ocean wave. A collection of 14 tracks had the likes of Radio 1 already backing the singer long before the release went viral. The Odd Future member has written for the likes of Beyonce and John Legend and his single Novacane reached No.17 in the US chart.
Of course there will be many other artists that arise throughout the course of 2012 that nobody predicted however below are some more names touted for success.
