Playlist 2011

2 days remain of 2011 before we enter into another year of music. Admittedly the charts have been dominated by Euro House/RnB tunes however there’s also been a lot of quality that’s graced our speakers throughout the last 12 months.

I’ve chosen some of my personal favourites in no particular order. There’s a lot out there so feel free to leave your suggestions in the comment box.

Sway – Still Speedin’

Congratulations to Sway as he clocked up a No.19 position in the UK charts with this banger. Lupe Fiasco & Kano both featured on remix versions.

Mosca – Bax

This is a straight head bopper. Released under the Numbers label, Bax is almost like an old school UKG tune with a modern twist. It’s hard to describe but check the link above. If you feel the urge to dance, DO IT!

Delilah – Love You So

The gorgeous Delilah served up her 2nd single after Go. I’m expecting huge things from her next year. She’s got an incredible voice.

Nero – Promises

Nero’s live performances are epic and their music matches their set-up. If Blade Runner was ever due a remake, Nero would be my top choice on the OST.

Emeli Sande – Heaven

The Massive Attack influenced Heaven is stunning. I can’t wait for her album. It’ll blow everything else out the water without a doubt.

YC – Racks

I don’t recall much about the video or in fact the lyrics but the chorus and the beat are all too catchy.

Nicki Minaj – Super Bass

Super Bass embodies everything essential in making the perfect pop tune. The hook, bridge, intro and Nicki’s personality shine beyond belief on this.

Jay-Z/Kanye West Feat. Mr Hudson – Why I Love You

Sampling Cassius , this is one of the standout tunes for me on the WTT album. You really can’t beat a good sample especially when it’s done to this standard.

Unicorn Kid – True Love Fantasy

Scottish producer Unicorn Kid is one to watch out for next year. At 20 years old, he’s already dishing out hits for free.

Yogi Feat. Ayah Marar – Follow U

Having produced Wretch’s Traktor, Yogi once again delivered the goods on this vocal dubstep piece.

Ed SheeranLego House (Gosling Remix Feat. P Money)

Ed and P Money linked up again following their pairing on the No.5 Collaborations EP.

Kelly Rowland Feat Lil Wayne- Motivation

The sexiest song of the year.

Josh OshoRedemption Days (Mensah Remix)

Josh Osho is another vocal talent emerging from the UK who looks set for a bright future. His Redemption Days package featured various remixes including the RZA’s version. This was my personal favourite courtesy of Bristol’s very own, Mensah.

Rudimental Feat. MC ShantieDeep In The Valley

Funky house wasn’t really on my radar this year but this tune stood out for me.

DonaeoNumber One

For me, this has to be in Donaeo’s top 5 tunes. We all know he can produce house bangers with his eyes closed but Number One has all the emotion and attitude you could expect from a top RnB song.

Ben Howard – The Fear

I’ve often listened to this whilst hungover. It’s just beautiful.

The WeekndHigh For This

Download his 3 free mixtapes from this year including House Of Balloons, Thursday & Echoes of Silence.

Frank Ocean – Swim Good

Taken from his Nostalgia Ultra mixtape.

Javeon McCarthyLove Without A Heart

The 23 year old from Bristol served up one of the years best RnB tunes.

Artful Feat. Kal LavelleCould Just Be The Bassline

Co-written by Ed Sheeran.

Katy BLights On (Gigamesh Remix)

As much as I love the original, Gigamesh turns on the style for an 80s esque mix.

Chris Brown – Beautiful People

The feel good tune of 2011 with a video worth watching too.

Childish Gambino – Bonfire

Mayer HawthorneA Long Time (Chromeo Mix)

RuskoEveryday (Netsky Remix)

Common Feat. Nas – Ghetto Dreams

Folk get so emotional about rappers like Rick Ross. Can’t say I’m much of a fan. There’s a lot more lyrical artists around as Common and Nas demonstrate.

Chromeo – Hot Mess

Do Chromeo actually make bad tunes?

Foster The People – Pumped Up Kicks

This is my happy song. The amount of times I’ve heard the bed used in adverts within radio and tv is unbelievable. 48 million views on Youtube, not bad at all!

Yelawolf Feat. Lil Jon – Hard White (Up In The Club)

How I wish more rappers would rap like this. Yelawolf spits straight fire! Good luck in finding a clean version 😉

Lupe Fiasco Feat. Trey Songz – Out Of My Head

One of the most consistent artists in the scene at present.

Tyler The Creator – Yonkers

The true definition of viral with a video that’s notched up 32 million views in 10 months!

The Game Feat. Lil WayneRed Nation

J Cole Feat. Trey SongzCan’t Get Enough

Pro Green Feat. Emeli SandeRead All About It

DappyTarzan Freestyle

Wretch 32 Feat. Josh Kumra – Don’t Go
